Drive Traffic Using Social Media Channels (Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest)

One of the best ways to drive free traffic to your online store is using social media channels such as Instagram or Facebook or Pinterest. For my online store, I personally use Instagram and Pinterest to drive majority of the social media channel traffic to my online store. That is purely based on really understanding my audience.

So when it comes to using social media channel to drive traffic to your online store, you really have to start with understanding your audience.

As an example, I know I’m targeting moms. So I know on a daily basis, moms are using Instagram to scroll through, follow influencers, and check out what other friends are doing. I know that they’re always on Instagram.

I can’t say that everybody would use Instagram as an example, like my grandma and grandpa…they don’t know about Instagram. So you have to know who you’re targeting based on the type of products that you’re selling, and know where they hang out online.

Because I know my audience is more active on Instagram, I use Instagram more actively to target my audience. I get those customers to know about my brand and ultimately, come to my store and purchase my products.  If you’re interested in learning more about how to really grow your Instagram account and also how to use Instagram to sell your product, you can check out my videos/posts.

When it comes to Pinterest, you also have to know why your audience would be using Pinterest. A lot of the times, people are using Pinterest to do some research.

So whether they’re planning a wedding, planning an event, planning for holidays, home decor, recipes, whatever the reason is, you kind of have to understand why they would be on that platform.

Many are used to scrolling through Pinterest and pinning the images that they like. And if there is something that really catches their interest, they may click on it and then ultimately go to your website to check it out. So Pinterest is a really great tool for discovery.

And I do believe that if you use Pinterest effectively, you can drive high quality traffic to your online store.  If you’re interested in learning more about how to use Pinterest to drive traffic to your online store, make sure you go check out this video.

Drive Traffic Using Google SEO

Next is using Google SEO to drive free traffic to your online store.

I truly believe that if you use Google SEO well, then you can get a lot of free traffic, a lot of high quality traffic to your store without really doing much work.

SEO stands for search engine optimization. What that really means is you’re using keyword search terms to drive traffic to your online store.

For example, let’s say you have a pet store and you’re selling pet collars. If you have optimized your website to for keyword such as “best collars for chihuahuas”, people can search that on Google and find your website through Google search. They can come to your store and end up checking out your products and ultimately, buy your products.

That’s what search engine optimization is.

You’re optimizing your website for a specific keyword search term on Google.

Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest require you to constantly update or post on those social media platforms to get traffic to your online store. But unlike those social media platforms, Google search engine optimization allows you to get free traffic to your store without you really doing much work down the line.

You have to do upfront work to make sure that your product page, your website, your blog posts are optimized with certain keyword search terms that you want to rank well on Google.

But once you have done the upfront work and start to get quality traffic to your online store, then it’s like Magic!

When Google starts to recognize that people are actually coming to your website for that specific keyword search term and spending time reading about it and ending up to purchase your products, then down the line, you can really get a lot of good, free traffic to your online store without you having to do much work.

So I really like using Google SEO to drive free traffic to my online store. If you want to learn more about how to set up your Shopify store properly to start ranking on specific search terms, then make sure you check out this video.

Drive Traffic Using Paid Ads

We just talked about all the free tools that we can use to drive traffic to your online store. Now I’m going to have to talk about spending some money to drive traffic to your online store, which is using paid ads.

Using the free tools, such as social media or using Google SEO, it does take some time to build up your audience.

If you want more faster strategies to get your brands discovered by your potential audience that wants to buy your products, using paid ads strategy might be the solution for you.

And I’m not saying that’s something that you HAVE to do. It helps you to get discovered by potential audience faster and really target those people that may be interested in buying your products.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to drive traffic to your online store using paid ads strategy.

When I first started using paid ads using Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest ads, I just started off with like $5 per day budget.

And once you start to know that your ad is working, that’s when you start to scale your ads.

If you are at this point saying, “I don’t have money to spend on all these ads!” Then,  you have to invest in learning how to run an ad effectively.

You have to invest in knowledge first. Then the next step would be to start running ads so that you can start seeing more targeted traffic to your online store and get your brands discovered by potential audience faster.
